Candida Overgrowth: Gut, Mouth, Skin Elimination - Verywell Health

Image
Candida is a group of fungi that exists (usually harmlessly) in areas such as the skin, the mouth, the vagina, and the gastrointestinal tract. Candidiasis is an infection caused by Candida fungus, usually Candida Albicans . Candida infection, also known as a yeast infection, is rarely serious in people with healthy immune systems but can sometimes spread to other parts of the body in immunocompromised people. Symptoms depend on the area of infection. On the skin, an overgrowth may cause a rash, while a vaginal yeast infection can cause itching, burning, and abnormal discharge. An oral yeast infection can cause white patches on the tongue, while an overgrowth of Candida in the gut can cause gastrointestinal complaints such as bloating. This article will discuss symptoms of Candida overgrowth, how to stop Candida overgrowth, the role diet plays in Candidiasis, causes of persistent Candida overgrowth, and how to prevent Candidiasis when immunocompromised.

US Navy, Ryan M. Breeden / Flickr cc Two stroke centers in Canada and the United States saw a significant reduction in monthly hospital presentations and workflow speeds in the first two waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, finds a study published today in Scientific Reports . Researchers at Harvard Medical School and the University of Calgary analyzed changes in stroke rates, hospital systems of care, and treatment times at two comprehensive stroke centers in Boston and Calgary before and during the pandemic (January 2018 to May 2021). The study period was divided into period 1 (pandemic wave 1), period 2 (lull), and period 3 (wave 2). No significant rise in hospital stroke deaths Of the 3,816 patients seen at the Calgary clinic, 69.3% had an ischemic stroke before the pandemic, and 30.7% had one during the pandemic; 80.0% were hospitalized. At the Boston center, 2,400 patients had an ischemic stroke, 66.1% of them prepandemic and 33.9% amid the pandemic; only 1% had the same adm

Rafael Azevedo, a resident of Brazil, is suffering from what he calls "the worst pain in the world," two rare ear diseases known as tympanic plexus neuralgia and intermediate nerve neuralgia. "It's a tremendous pain. And what I have to do is to keep my emotions in balance," Azevedo said through his physical therapist and interpreter, Carlos Santos. Azevedo and his wife, Luana Diniz Tormin, are renting an apartment in Connecticut because Tormin was invited to speak at the United Nations to make a humanitarian request on behalf of her husband during an event focused on rare diseases. Mupirocin scientific molecular model, 3D rendering (Adobe Stock 490590070 by Alexey Novikov) Hospital-associated infections are still a serious issue nationwide, but a recent study offers some hope in combatting them. Staphylococcus aureus ( S aureus) and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are 2 of the most pervasive infections found in intensive care units (ICUs). In an 18-month trial involving 801,668 adult ICU admissions, researchers found that a nasal antibiotic ointment, mupirocin, effectively prevented S aureus infections in critically ill patients. The results showed an 18% reduction in the risk of S. aureus clinical cultures and a 15% reduction in the risk of methicillin-resistant MRSA. These numbers are promising in the fight against these persistent infections. In this Article While many treatments for psoriasis focus on topical medications, like creams and lotions, or systemic agents such as biologics, laser therapy stands in a class of its own. But laser treatment for psoriasis isn't the same as lasers used for cosmetic purposes like skin resurfacing. Instead, the laser in question, called the excimer laser, is a beam of light that targets areas of skin affected by psoriasis symptoms like plaques. While harnessing the power of a laser for psoriasis can be an effective psoriasis treatment for mild to moderate psoriasis, according to the National Psoriasis Foundation, it's not a great idea for all types of psoriasis—nor is it the right option for all cases.
