Can diarrhea be a symptom of the flu? - Medical News Today

Image
Diarrhea and other gastrointestinal (GI) problems are sometimes symptoms of influenza (flu), although not every person with the flu experiences them. While the flu is a common cause of respiratory illness, it only sometimes causes diarrhea. Researchers do not know why or how this may occur. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) , diarrhea during the flu is more common in children than in adults. This article looks at why influenza may cause diarrhea, stomach flu, and vomiting. It also looks at other flu symptoms and treatments. The flu virus typically infects people via a respiratory route. However, GI symptoms, including diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, sometimes occur. GI symptoms can indicate severe flu and represent a secondary infection. It is common for the flu virus to spread to the GI tract after a respiratory infection. However, researchers do not know how it is spread. Pilonidal sinus: Symptoms, pictures, and treatment - Medical News Today

Image
A pilonidal sinus is a small tunnel that develops at the top of the crease in the buttocks. Trapped hair around the buttocks crease can lead to an abscess, and a pilonidal sinus may develop as a result. If people have a pilonidal sinus, they may have discomfort and irritation around the tailbone area. In some cases, a pilonidal sinus may resolve by itself, but people may require treatment, such as abscess drainage or sinus removal. In this article, we look at symptoms, causes, treatment options, recovery, and outlook for a pilonidal sinus. According to the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS), the cause of pilonidal sinus is not clear. It may be due to hair that grows in the crease of the buttocks, or natal cleft. Alternatively, trapped hair follicles may lead to hair and bacteria entering the skin. This can result in inflammation and pus forming in an abscess. Once the abscess heals, either on its own or with treatment, a pilonidal sinus may develop. The sinus is like

New research: Vaccine against 3 encephalitis viruses found safe, effective - The Indian Express

Image
A vaccine for eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEEV), western equine encephalitis virus (WEEV), and Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV) was found to be safe, well-tolerated and induced a neutralising antibody response in adult volunteers, according to results from a phase 1 clinical trial, published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases. EEEV, WEEV and VEEV are spread to humans through the bites of infected mosquitoes. Horses are also susceptible to infection, but horses cannot transmit the viruses directly to humans. Infections in humans are rare but can lead to flu-like symptoms and, in some cases, severe neurological damage or death. Researchers designed a virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine candidate that uses proteins from the outer shells of the viruses, the US National Institutes of Health said in a media release. VLPs do not contain the genetic material that the viruses need to replicate inside cells, so VLPs cannot cause infection. In trials on 30 candidates, the vacci

Retrospective Analysis of Urinary Tract Infection in the Pediatric Population at a Tertiary Care Centre - Cureus

Image
Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is among the most common infections occurring during childhood. It is caused by both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria and  Escherichia coli is the most common causative agent. Methods: Data of all pediatric patients in the age group of 6 months to 18 years with urinary tract infection were taken for analysis. Urine samples were collected and cultured on the cystine lactose electrolyte-deficient medium. The presence of bacteria was identified using biochemicals, and the antimicrobial test was performed using the Kirby-Bauer test or the VITEK 2 compact system (bioMérieux, Inc., France). Results: The prevalence of UTI was 23.5%. In total, 614 specimens tested positive with significant bacteriuria. The male-to-female ratio was 1:2.3. Approximately 54% patients presented with urinary symptoms alone. Culture positivity was significantly associated with pyuria (p < 0.0001). E. coli (334/614) was the mo

Best Fungus Supplements (2022) Top Toenail Fungus Treatment Products - Kent Reporter

Medically known as onychomycosis, toenail fungus is a common fungal infection that starts as a white or yellow spot under the nail beds. The fungus grows and spreads to other nails if left untreated, making them hard and unsightly. Eventually, the fungus causes the nails to separate from your nail bed, which can be painful and smell quite bad. Toenail fungus is a problem that affects at least 5.5% of adults worldwide, but it's more prevalent in men. According to Shari Lipner, MD, a board-certified dermatologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, toenail fungus can be challenging because the nails grow very slowly. The more severe the infection, the thicker the nails, making them grow slowly. The secret is to diagnose the fungal infection early and treat it before it gets too severe. Thankfully, a good fungus supplement can clear up the infection. Fungus supplements use ingredients like vitamins, minerals, and herbs to support your body's natural defenses against fun
